Florida International beats Florida Tech 80-66
MIAMI (AP)—Russell Hicks scored 16 points to lead Florida International to a 80-66 win over Florida Tech on Monday night.
Hicks also had seven rebounds for FIU (1-0) and Alex Galindo and Erick Nsangou each added 15 points.
Justin Sedlak had 20 points and nine rebounds for Florida Tech, a Division II school.
Florida Tech’s Ryan Ballard came off the bench to score 12. E.J. Murray scored 11 and Carl McNally added 14.
Florida Tech pulled to within nine points in the second half when Ballard made a free throw to close the gap to 61-52, but FIU pulled away.
Galindo’s dunk with 2:18 left in the second half gave FIU a 19-point lead, with Florida Tech trailing 78-59.
Florida International had 20 assists and caused 16 Florida Tech turnovers.
