Brown leads Loyola to 89-68 win over Penn

BALTIMORE (AP)—Gerald Brown scored 27 points, made a career-high 6 steals and Michael Tuck added 18 points to lead Loyola, Md., to an 89-68 win over Penn on Sunday in the preliminary round of the Philly Hoop Group Classic.

Loyola (1-1) raced out to a 43-26 halftime lead by forcing 14 first-half Penn (0-2) turnovers. Brown led all-scorers at the half with 19 points and snagged a game-high 8 rebounds.

But the Quakers battled back to start the second half, scoring 6 of the first 8 points to cut the lead to just 13, at 45-32, with 18:17 remaining.

Penn was paced by forwards Justin Reilly, who had 10 points and 3 rebounds, and Andreas Schreiber, who finished with 13 points and 5 rebounds. Loyola, however, would answer with 14-7 run of their own over the next 5:07 to extend the lead to 59-39 with 13:10 left.

The Greyhounds put the game out of reach with 10:40 remaining when the lead ballooned to 73-43 after Brown came away with a steal and took the ball the other way for a layup.

Guard Brett Harvey played a strong all-around game for the Greyhounds, scoring 4 points to go with a career-high 9 assists, 2 steals and only one turnover.
