Thomas’ free throw lift Murray State to 66-65 win in opener
MURRAY, Ky. (AP)—Kevin Thomas hit a free throw with 0.2 seconds left to give Murray State a 66-65 win over Rider in the opener for both teams Saturday night.
Thomas was fouled after dribbling the length of the court.
Murray State (1-0) overcame commiting 30 fouls in the game and allowing Rider (0-1) to shoot 35 free throws.
Danero Thomas led the Racers with 15 points, all in the second half.
Ryan Thompson scored 23 for Rider and Harris Mansell added 21 points.
Murray jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and had a 30-24 edge going into halftime.
Rider shot just 47 percent from the field and 35 percent in the first half.
