Texas Southern 74, Alcorn St. 64
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP)—Jacques Jones had 21 points and 10 rebounds and Sollie Norwood added 20 points to lead Texas Southern to a 74-64 victory over Alcorn State Thursday night.
The score stayed within a few points for much of the first half, and Texas Southern (14-16) led by only one point going into the intermission.
But the Tigers pulled away in the second half to secure a place in Friday night’s semifinal game against Mississippi Valley State.
The Tigers shot 52.1 percent from the floor and 62.5 percent from the free throw line. Jones and Norwood were the only double figure scorers for Texas Southern.
The Braves (11-19) were led by Delvin Thompson and Clifton Douglass with 14 points apiece. Alex Owumi added 11, and Juan Wyatt had 10 points and snagged 11 rebounds.
