Jackson St. 81, Alabama A&M 70
JACKSON, Miss. (AP)—Grant Massey scored 18 points to lead Jackson State to an 81-70 win over Alabama A&M on Saturday.
Jackson State (18-13, 12-6 Southwestern Athletic Conference) scored the last five points of the first half to take a 45-40 lead at the break and never trailed again.
Trey Johnson, the nation’s second leading scorer, finished with only 17 points for Jackson State, which is 10 below his average. It was the first time this season that Johnson did not lead the team in scoring.
The Tigers used a 10-0 run midway through the second half to stretch the lead to 61-48 with 12:28 left and never looked back.
Julius Young added 14 points for Jackson State and Catraiva Givens chipped in 12.
Trant Simpson scored 17 points for Alabama A&M (10-20, 4-14), Jonathan Inman put 13 on the board, Jonathan Belt chipped in 12 and Lanorria Smith scored 10.
Jackson State out rebounded Alabama A&M 49-33.
