SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP)—Derek Stockalper and Chaz Thomas combined for 32 points in the second half as Cal Poly beat Pacific 82-70 on Saturday to clinch the second seed in the Big West Conference tournament.
Thomas stole the ball, fed to Stockalper near midcourt and the senior’s dunk with 2:18 to go gave the Mustangs an insurmountable 76-67 advantage.
Stockalper finished with 25 points and four rebounds in his final game in Mott Gym. Thomas added 19 points to go along with six rebounds and four steals.
The Mustangs (18-10, 9-5) reached the 18-win mark for the first time since joining Division I in 1994-95, earning byes through the first two rounds of the conference tournament.
Pacific (11-18, 5-9) was led by Anthony Esparza’s 16 points and nine rebounds.
