Boston U. 62, Binghamton 58
BOSTON (AP)—Corey Lowe scored on a drive down the lane with 52 seconds left to snap a 58-58 tie and help lift Boston to a come-from-behind 62-58 victory over Binghamton in American East quarterfinals Saturday.
The win advanced third-seeded BU to Sunday’s semifinal against No. 2 Albany, which beat New Hampshire earlier Saturday night.
The victory ended a four-game tournament losing streak for BU, which had lost in the first round each of the last three years. Saturday’s victory was the Terriers third over No. 6 Binghamton this season.
The Terriers (12-17) trailed by 12 points, 15-3, early. They caught up, but then went down by 12 again with 14:56 left. They, however, held the Bearcats (13-16) to 14 points the rest of the way, none in the final 2:14.
Valdas Sirutis scored a career-high 11 points, including 5-for-5 from the field, in 19 minutes. Lowe, saddled by early foul trouble, had 10 points, all in the final 10:09 and Brian Macon and Carlos Strong also had 10.
Steve Proctor led Binghamton with 22 points, Lazar Trifunovic had 13 and eight rebounds. Mike Gordon added 11.
