Florida A&M 68, Bethune-Cookman 62
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP)—Rome Sander’s four free throws and a basket by Darius Glover in overtime pushed Florida A&M to a 68-62 victory over Bethune-Cookman in the regular-season finale for both teams Saturday.
Glover had hit two free throws with 12.2 seconds left in regulation, tying the score at 62-all and forcing the overtime.
The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference win improved Florida A&M’s conference mark to 12-6 and its overall record to 18-13. Bethune-Cookman, which missed all seven of its shots and failed to score in overtime, fell to 6-12 in the conference and 9-20 overall.
Glover finished with 16 points to lead the visiting Rattlers, who have won four of their last five and nine of their last 13. Lamar Twitty added 15 points, with Sander and Brian Greene supplying 13 apiece. Sander also led all rebounders with 11.
Dewayne Pettus nailed 22 points to pace the Wildcats, with Ron Mitchell and John Anderson contributing 12 points each.
Florida A&M led by 29-38 at halftime and surged to a ten-point edge, 43-33, with 13:12 to go. Greene scored eight of his points during that span.
Bethune-Cookman then rallied behind Pettus to go up by four, 49-45, with 8:13 showing.
It was to-and-for the rest of the way, with Jimmy Hudson’s three-pointer at 21.3 seconds giving Bethune-Cookman a two-point lead, 62-60. Then came Glover’s free throws at 12.2 seconds, requiring the overtime.
The Wildcats had won five of their previous seven games.
