Nicholls St. 105, Lamar 90
THIBODAUX, La. (AP)—Ryan Bathie scored 24 points and freshman center Mitch Boyce was a perfect five-for-five from 3-point range as Nicholls State beat Lamar 105-90 on Thursday night in a Southland Conference contest.
The Colonels (8-21, 7-8), which hit a school record 15 three-point baskets in the first half and finished with 20 on the night, dominiated the game from start to finish.
At the half, Nicholls held a 60-47 edge over the Cardinals (13-16, 7-8)
Adonis Gray added 18 points for the Colonels, while Gil Verner had 17 and Stefan Blaszczynski and Boyce each ended the night with 16.
Lamar Sanders recorded his 10th double-double of the season but the Cardinals couldn’t overcome the Colonels’ hot shooting. He tried to keep Lamar in the game almost single-handedly, scoring a season-high 29 points. He also grabbed 16 rebounds and blocked four shots. Darren Hopkins scored 18 points and Matthew Barrow added 12 points off the bench.
For the game, Nicholls shot 55.4 percent (36-of-65) from the field and 54.1 percent (20-of-37) from behind the arc. Lamar also had a good night shooting, making 46.5 percent (34-of-73) of their field goals and 36.8 percent (14-of-38) of their 3-pointers.
