Norfolk St. 69, Howard 68
NORFOLK, Va. (AP)—Tynell Dunkley’s jumper and free throw with eight seconds left clinched a comeback win as Norfolk State edged Howard 69-68 Wednesday night.
The Bisons (9-20, 5-12 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) led by four with 1:23 remaining.
Tony Murphy’s layup with 54 seconds left brought Norfolk State (10-18, 10-8) to within two, and Dunkley’s jumper evened the score at 68. Dunkley was fouled as he shot, and his free throw completed the 3-point play.
Howard led by 13 with 4:59 left in the first half. But the Spartans outscored the Bisons 28-11 over the next 10 minutes—spanning both halves—to take a four-point lead.
Howard retook the lead but Norfolk State kept the game close until the final seconds.
Murphy scored 23 points, and Dunkley and Calvin Brown had 13 each for the Spartans.
Howard’s Darek Mitchell scored 17 points, Darryl Hudson had 12 and Kandi Mukole 10.
