Middle Tennessee 72, Troy 64
TROY, Ala. (AP)—With a game-high 21 points, Calvin O’Neil led Middle Tennessee to a 72-64 victory over Troy in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference tournament Wednesday night.
The lead changed hands 20 times and the score was tied nine times, but the Blue Raiders took the lead for good on a 3-pointer by Kevin Kanaskie with 6:09 left to play. Middle Tennessee (14-16) advances to play South Alabama in Sunday’s quarterfinals in Lafayette, La.
Kanaskie had 13 points and eight rebounds and Nigel Johnson added 12 points and seven rebounds.
Cedric Jackson led the Trojans (13-17) with 16 points and seven rebounds. O’Darien Bassett added 14 points and Boo Ramsey chipped in with 13.
Middle Tennessee outshot Troy 45.1 percent to 32.8 percent and outrebounded the Trojans 38-35.
