Holy Cross, 83, Lafayette 53
WORCESTER, Mass. (AP)—Tim Clifford scored 22 points and Torey Thomas added 13 to lead Holy Cross to an 83-53 victory over Lafayette in the quarterfinals of the Patriot League Tournament Wednesday night.
Holy Cross (23-8) plays fourth-seed American Sunday, which defeated Colgate 59-44 Wednesday night. Holy Cross, the regular season champion and tournament top seed, plays at home the remainder of the tournament.
Lafayette’s Andrew Brown finished with 28 points, including eight 3-pointers. His 3-pointer gave Lafayette an 11-10 lead at the 15:20 mark in the first half, but Clifford then scored to begin a Crusader surge.
Holy Cross went on a 24-2 run, at one point holding Lafayette scoreless for a span of 8:19, and had a 42-18 halftime lead.
Lafayette cut the lead to 44-25 at the start of the second half, but Holy Cross, which forced 20 turnovers in the game, then scored 14 unanswered points.
