Idaho St. 67, Montana St. 58
POCATELLO, Idaho (AP)—Senior guard David Schroeder scored 20 points, 15 in the second half, to lead Idaho State past Montana State 67-58 on Tuesday night in the regular season finale for both schools.
Both the Bengals (13-16) and the Bobcats (11-18) finished 8-8 in Big Sky Conference play and each advances to the Big Sky tournament.
Montana State, the fifth seed, will play fourth-seed Portland State University in Portland, Ore., and the sixth-seeded Bengals will play third-seed University of Montana in Missoula, Mont., on Saturday.
The Bengals dominated play in the first half, leading 31-15 at halftime. Montana State only shot 20 percent from the field in the opening half and was 0-14 from behind the 3-point line.
The Bengals weren’t much better, shooting 35 percent from the field and converting only two of 14 3-point shots.
The 15 points scored by Montana State in the first half were the fewest points Idaho State has allowed in a half to a Division I team since the start of the shot-clock era in 1985.
Idaho State increased its lead to 21 points at 39-18 less than five minutes into second half. The closest Montana State could come was to within eight points with just under three minutes remaining.
Carlos Taylor and Ted Morris had 13 points apiece for the Bobcats.
