ROCHESTER, Mich. (AP)—Erik Kangas hit two free throws with 0.4 of a second left to give Oakland a wild 85-84 overtime victory over Oral Roberts in a battle of the Mid-Continent Conference’s top teams Saturday night.

Yemi Ogunoye appeared to have won the game for the Crusaders (20-10, 12-2 Mid-Con) with his putback of a Moses Ehambe miss as the clock ran out in overtime. The officials, though, used replay to determine the ball went through with 0.4 of a second left.

With Johnathan Jones trying to inbounds the ball for Oakland, Kangas collided with Shawn King. King was called for the foul, and Kangas converted the free throws for the win. After a desperation 70-footer missed at the buzzer, most of the 3,612 fans rushed the floor.

Vova Severovas, playing his last regular-season game, had 20 points to lead Oakland (17-13, 10-4). Kangas had 19 and Rick Billings finished with a season-high 14 points, including seven in the final four minutes of regulation.

Caleb Green, expected to be named Mid-Con Player of the Year for the third time, had 24 points for Oral Roberts. Ken Tutt added 18 and Marcello Vealy had 17 points and 11 rebounds.

The Crusaders led by as many as 10 points in the second half and were up 72-65 with 4:08 left, but Billings keyed an Oakland rally. He could have won the game in regulation but missed one of two free throws.

Oral Roberts and Oakland will be the top two seeds in the Mid-Con tournament, which begins March 3.
