OMAHA, Neb. (AP)—Dane Watts hit five of Creighton’s nine 3-pointers on a day when the Bluejays shot 56 percent from beyond the arc in Saturday’s 71-54 win over Wichita State.
Creighton (19-10, 13-5) made nine of its first 12 three-point attempts to send the Shockers to their fourth straight loss and an 8-10 finish in the Missouri Valley Conference. Wichita State opened the season with nine straight wins before sliding to a 17-13 finish to the regular season.
The Bluejays broke a 23-23 tie with an 8-0 run and led 33-25 at the half.
Watts’ third 3-pointer of the half started the run and a three by Isacc Miles finished it.
The Bluejays hit 6-of-9 from beyond the arc in the first half.
Nick Porter followed a Watts’ three early in the second half with one of his own as Creighton pushed its lead to 44-29. The margin reached 16 before a three-point play by Ryan Martin and a three-pointer by Gal Mekel helped Wichita State cut it down to eight.
Porter, who led four Bluejays in double figures with 17 points, scored 13 points in the second half as the Creighton pulled away. Nate Funk added 16 points and Watts finished with 15.
P.J. Couisnard had 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Shockers.
