Winthrop 83, Coastal Carolina 69
CONWAY, S.C. (AP)—Torrell Martin scored 32 points, including six 3-pointers, and six rebounds to give Winthrop the first perfect conference-play season in Big South history with a 83-69 win Saturday against Coastal Carolina.
The Eagles (25-4, 14-0 Big South) had already captured the regular-season title and will host its first round conference tournament game Tuesday and both semifinal games on Thursday.
Despite the loss, Coastal (15-4, 7-7) still finishes in the top four and will host its first round conference tournament game Tuesday night.
Winthrop broke open a tight game with a 9-1 run midway through the first half to take a 24-16 lead with 7:13 left in the half. The Eagles did not relinquish the lead and led by as many as 17 with 19:45 left in the game.
Craig Bradshaw had 13 points and nine rebounds for Winthrop and Phillip Williams and Michael Jenkins added 11 each.
The Chanticleers were led by Joshua Mack with 17 points, Moses Sonko with 14 and Jack Leasure with 10. Adrian Gross grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
