THIBODAUX, La. (AP)—Stefan Blaszczynki scored 17 of his 24 points in the second half, including a 3-pointer that broke the game’s fifth and final tie as Nicholls State beat Southeastern Louisiana 74-72 on Saturday.
Blaszczynki, was 10-for-18 from the floor for Nicholls State (6-20, 5-7 Southland Conference). Ryan Bathie added 19 for the Colonels.
Southeastern (15-10, 7-5 SLC) led 34-31 at halftime and 38-35 after Joseph Polite, who finished with 17 points, made two free throws with 18:27 left.
A 10-0 run capped by Ryan Bathie’s dunk with 15:07 left put the Colonels ahead, 45-38.
The Lions answered with a 9-2 run, tying the game at 47 on a 3-pointer by Dekyron Nicks, then building their lead to 58-50 on a 3-point shot by Quennell Green. He and Daryl Cohen had 11 points each.
Nicholls State rallied to tie the score at 60-60 on Gil Verner’s 3-pointer with 5:51 left.
Bathie, who finished with 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting, sank a 3-pointer at 4:39 to put Nicholls State ahead, 65-63. Then Terry Bryant’s bucket, on the Lions’ next possession, created the final tie.
