Tennessee St. 64, Murray St. 60 OT
MURRAY, Ky. (AP)—Clarence Matthews scored six points in overtime as Tennessee State came back from a 10-point deficit to beat Murray State 64-60 Wednesday night.
Larry Turner hit two free throws in overtime as the Tigers (11-17, 7-10 Ohio Valley Conference) started the period with a 6-1 run.
Murray State (13-13, 11-7) had two opportunities to tie the game in the final 30 seconds but a charging foul called on Ed Horton and a missed 3-pointer by Tyler Holloway ensured the Tennessee State victory.
Ladarious Weaver came off the bench to score 21 points for Tennessee State, and Andrae Belton added 18. Matthews had 10 points, and he and Turner had 11 rebounds apiece.
Shawn Witherspoon led Murray with 17 points, Bruce Carter had 12 and Marvin Williams 10.
Murray State led 49-39 with 6:38 remaining, but a jumper by Matthews followed by a Belton 3-pointer cut the margin to 49-44 within 30 seconds.
Tennessee State continued to chip away at the lead and tied the game at 52 with 2:31 remaining. Neither team scored for the remainder of regulation, sending the game into overtime.
Tennessee State trailed 26-21 at halftime.
