Stetson 88, Savannah St. 74
DELAND, Fla. (AP)—Senior guard Gabe McMillen poured in a career-high 23 points, 18 of them coming on free throws, to lead Stetson to an 88-74 victory over Savannah State Tuesday.
McMillen led the way on a night when Stetson (9-17) made 41 of 47 free throws. Sophomore center Tim Lang connected on all 10 of his charity tosses on the way to a career-best 20-point effort. The Hatters also got 12 points from sophomore guard Kris Thomas and 10 points from sophomore guard Garfield Blair.
Savannah State (10-17) junior guard Joseph Flegler led all scorers with 24 points. Tigers senior forward Joshua Obiajunwa chipped in 13 and sophomore forward Chris Linton added 11 points.
It was a back-and-forth game in the first half as there were six lead changes and six ties before the visiting Tigers took a 34-33 edge into halftime. But in the second half the Hatters used an 18-4 run to take a 63-53 advantage, the first 10-point lead of the game, with 8:39 to play. McMillen concluded the run with four straight free throws after Obiajunwa was hit with his fourth personal foul and, after objecting to the call, was called for a technical foul that put him out of the game.
