NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP)—Jermaine Spencer scored a game-high 17 points and Northwestern State overcame a halftime deficit to beat Stephen F. Austin 67-57 on Monday night.
Stephen F. Austin took the game’s largest lead of 11 points with 2:20 remaining in the first half, but Northwestern State (13-10, 8-3 Southland) chipped away to go into halftime trailing 29-24.
Luke Rogers hit a 3-pointer two minutes into the second half to tie the game at 34 and then drained a jumper on the Demons’ next possession to give Northwestern State the lead for good.
The Demons improved their field-goal shooting from 35 percent in the first half to 56 percent in the second half, hitting 6-for-9 3-pointers in the second.
Spencer came off the bench to shoot 8-of-12 from the field and led the Demons with eight rebounds. Rogers scored 16 points and Colby Bargeman added 15.
Matt Kingsley led the Lumberjacks (14-9, 7-4) with 15 points on 7-of-11 field goal shooting, while Josh Alexander added 13 points and led the team with five rebounds.
Northwestern State shot 44 percent for the game to 42 percent for Stephen F. Austin. The Demons outrebounded the Lumberjacks 38-30.
