COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP)—Belton Rivers scored 22 points to propel Tennessee Tech to an 86-66 win over in-state rivals Tennessee State on Saturday.
Home team Tennessee Tech (15-11, 11-6 Ohio Valley Conference) came out of halftime with a 39-32 lead and took advantage of 15 fast breaks to extend to a 20-point lead with 3:02 left.
Tennessee State dropped to 10-16 overall and 6-10 in conference play in their sixth straight loss. Reiley Ervin and Ladarious Weaver to add 15 points each for the Tigers.
Weaver dropped the lead with two late 3-pointers with 2 minutes left, but Frank Davis brought the Golden Eagles back with four free throw shots and Daniel Northern’s dunk ended the game.
Forward Clarence Matthews, the team’s leader in rebounds and second in scoring, was fouled out with 8:06 left in the game, leaving with 12 points on the board.
Anthony Fisher scored 17 and Amadi McKenzie added 15 for the Golden Eagles. Antjuan Koger scored 10 points and had seven rebounds. ^
