Sam Houston St 90, Northwestern St 80
NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP)—Sam Houston State, led by Ryan Bright’s 27-points and 12-rebounds, performance, beat Northwestern State 90-80 Thursday night.
The Bearkats (16-7, 8-2 Southland Conference) took over second place in the league and extended their win streak to four while cooling off the league’s hottest team.
Bright sank all nine of his shots from the field, including six 3-pointers, and went 3-for-5 aim at the free throw line. C.J. Hadley added 20 points, Aaron Wade 14 and James Barrett 11 for Sam Houston.
The Bearkats took control with a 26-6 run sandwiched around halftime, turning a 39-31 deficit 1:52 before the break into a 57-45 lead 4:34 into the second period.
Sam Houston hit six of its first seven shots in the second half, the only miss coming on a blocked shot, with Bright making three 3-pointers and a free throw in a 19-5 burst. Meanwhile, NSU made only two of its first 10 shots.
Kennan Jones led the Demons with 19 points, Keithan Hancock and Colby Bargeman each scored 10.
Sam Houston sank 10 of 13 3-pointers in the second half and finished with 57 percent (13-23) aim from behind the arc while making 57 percent (30-53) overall.
