Akron 78, Cent. Michigan 71
AKRON, Ohio (AP)—Romeo Travis scored a game-high 23 points to lead Akron to a 78-71 win over Central Michigan Wednesday night.
It was Akron’s ninth straight win.
Ahead by just two with 13:39 left to play, the Zips (18-4, 9-1 Mid-American) went on a 12-3 run to pull ahead 59-48 with less than 10 minutes left.
Akron was ahead 37-31 at the half and led by as many as 17 points after the break. The Chippewas (8-14, 3-7) never had the lead.
Nick Dials scored 13 for the Zips, including three 3-pointers, and Jeremiah Woods added 12.
Giordan Watson scored 19, Jordan Bitzer had 17 and Sefton Barrett added 14 for Central Michigan.
Central Michigan outshot the Zips about 59 percent (27 of 46) to about 48 percent (28 of 58). In the paint, Akron scoring 42 points compared to the Chippewas’ 28. The Zips also held the advantage in points off turnovers, scoring 19 to Central Michigan’s 10.
