Austin Peay 62, Tennessee St. 53
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP)—Todd Babington scored 16 points and grabbed three rebounds to help Austin Peay beat Tennessee State 62-53 Saturday night.
The Govs (15-7, 12-2 Ohio Valley Conference) led 27-21 at the end of the first half and scored 35 points in the second half. Austin Peay’s biggest lead was by 11 early in the first half at 16:58.
The Tigers (10-14, 6-8) only led by as much as one point early in the first half, with the lead changing four times during the game. The scored was tied only once.
Austin Peay earned 20 points from turnovers, easily overcomingTennessee State’s 10. But the Tigers were able to dominate under the goal, scoring 20 points in the paint and beating out the Govs’ 16 points.
Tennessee State’s Clarence Matthews had the most rebounds in the game with 12 and was the team’s lead scorer, grabbing 14 points. Andrae Belton scored 11 points while Ladarious Weaver and Reiley Ervin both contributed 10.
Landon Shipley scored 12 points and Drake Reed earned 10 for Austin Peay.
