Stetson 69, Lipscomb 67
DELAND, Fla. (AP)—Kris Thomas scored 12 points to lead Stetson to a 69-67 victory over Lipscomb on Saturday night.
It took Thomas and Stetson’s two other leading scorers—Eric Diaz and A.J. Smith—each of whom had 10 points, to overcome a season-high 30-point effort from Lipscomb guard Brian Fisk.
Stetson (8-15, 4-8 Atlantic Sun Conference) snapped a three-game losing streak. Lipscomb (14-10, 8-5) fell to 0-5 all time at Stetson’s Edmunds Center. For the Hatters, it marked the 300th overall win at their campus facility, which opened on Dec. 5, 1974.
The Hatters got a season-high 34 points off the bench from six different reserves and overcame an 11-point deficit to take a 41-39 halftime lead.
Stetson opened the second half with a 14-4 run highlighted by a 3-pointer and three field goals by Diaz to take the largest lead of the game, 55-43, with 12:51 remaining. Lipscomb rallied back with a 15-6 run anchored by seven points from Fisk to get within three points, 61-58, with 6:59 left.
Lipscomb had a chance to tie or go ahead with a final possession with eight seconds left. However, Trey Williams was off the mark on a 3-pointer, and Eddie Ard missed a putback as time expired.
