Furman 76, Appalachian St. 72
GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP)—Senior forward Moussa Diagne scored a career high 28 points, including a 3-pointer to force overtime and the go-ahead three-point play to open the extra period as Furman topped Appalachian State 76-72 in Southern Conference action Saturday night.
Diagne was 10-of-12 from the field including 2-of-3 from long range. His 3-point shot from the left wing tied the game at 57 with 1.4 second left in regulation and capped a 13-2 run for the Paladins (12-11, 6-6 SoCon).
His 12-footer and free throw 23 seconds into overtime gave Furman the lead for good at 60-57.
Senior guard D.J. Thompson scored 24 to lead the Mountaineers (17-6, 9-3), who saw a four-game win streak snapped. Donte Minter added 19.
Thompson managed just three shots and two points in the first half before netting 15 in the second period and seven in overtime. He scored 11 during a 19-4 run that gave the Appalachian its largest lead at 51-39 on his three free throws with 6:32 left in regulation.
The Mountaineers were up 55-44 when Jadee Jones made two free throws with 2:40 left to open Furman’s game-tying run.
Diagne also scored 15 in the second half and seven in overtime. Robby Bostain and Jones combined for 6-of-8 on free throws in the last 20 seconds to seal the win. Bostain had 17 for Furman.
