Belmont 62, Stetson 58
DELAND, Fla. (AP)—Boomer Herndon scored a team-high 11 points to lead Belmont to a 62-58 win over Stetson Thursday.
Belmont (15-8, 9-3 Atlantic Sun Conference) extended its winning streak over Stetson to six games. Stetson (7-15, 3-8) lost for the seventh time in its last nine games.
Andy Wicke was the only other Bruin in double digits with 10 points.
Tim Lang had a game-high 13 points for Stetson, which also got 11 points from Gabe McMillen and 10 points from Garfield Blair.
Stetson led 36-33 at halftime after the lead changed 11 times in the first half. The Hatters led 45-38 with 15:04 remaining before the Bruins went on a 12-0 run behind two baskets by Andrew Preston and 3-pointers by Justin Hare and Henry Harris.
Stetson regained the lead twice down the stretch on 3-pointers by Lang and Mark Lohuis. A 3-pointer by Herndon with 4:02 left put the Bruins ahead 57-55 before Garfield Blair tied it at 57 with two free throws.
After Herndon put the Bruins up 60-58, the Hatters had a chance to tie it or go ahead but turned the ball over on a shot-clock violation with 9.5 seconds to play. Hare got behind the Hatter defense on the inbounds pass and made an easy layup with 7 seconds to play to make it 62-58.
