MURRAY, Ky. (AP)—Murray State beat league-leading Austin Peay 77-68 on Thursday night.
The Racers outrebounded the Governors 23-7 in the second half, behind a nine-rebound effort from senior Shawn Witherspoon. The Racers pulled down 18 offensive rebounds to Austin Peays nine.
The Racers (11-11, 9-5 Ohio Valley Conference) shot 56 percent in the second half and held Austin Peay (14-7, 11-2 OVC) to 44 percent from the field.
Tyler Holloway led Murray State with 21 points and went 5-of-10 from 3-point range.
Along with his nine rebounds, Witherspoon contributed nine points.
Drake Reed led Austin Peay with 16 points and six rebounds.
Austin Peay led early on, jumping out to an early 17-11 lead and extended its first half lead to as much as seven with 4:13 left in the half.
The Racers went on an 11-6 run to end the half and a buzzer beating 3-point attempt by Tyler Holloway found nothing but the net to cut the Governor lead to two.
Murray State claimed its first lead of the game with 10:56 remaining in the second half when a 3-point shot by Danero Thomas gave the Racers a 53-50 advantage.
