Lamar 89, Nicholls St. 82
BEAUMONT, Texas (AP)—Brandon Chappell scored 29 points, including nine 3-pointers, to help lead Lamar to an 89-82 victory over Nicholls State on Thursday night.
Darren Hopkins used a 3-pointer to give Lamar (9-12, 3-4 Southland) the lead for good at 72-71 with 4:23 left in the second half and the Cardinals slowly pulled away from Nicholls State (3-19, 2-6). Hopkins finished with 26 points. Matthew Barrow and Lawrence Nwevo each had 11 for Lamar.
Chappell hit 10-of-13 from the field, including 9-of-11 from 3-point range.
Ryan Bathie led Nicholls State with 25 points and James Dixon came off the bench to score 20. Bathie hit 7-of-14 3-pointers. Adonis Gray scored 12 and Stefan Blaszczynski scored 11.
Lamar led 46-40 at the half.
Lamar shot 59 percent from the field and Nicholls State shot 44 percent.
