W. Kentucky 103, Louisiana-Monroe 96
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP)—Courtney Lee scored 24 points, including four free throws in the final seconds, as Western Kentucky beat Louisiana-Monroe 103-96 Wednesday night.
Lee made two foul shots with 15 seconds to play to put the Hilltoppers (17-7, 9-3 Sun Belt Conference) ahead 101-96. He then rebounded a missed layup by Louisiana-Monroe’s Tony Hooper with 4.8 seconds to play and was immediately fouled again. He made both free throws to seal the win.
Jordan Payne came off the bench to score 29 points for the Warhawks (13-10, 7-4).
With the score tied at 87, Orlando Mendez-Valdez scored eight points during a 10-3 run that gave the Hilltoppers a 97-90 lead with 1:21 left. Mendez-Valdez finished with 20 points.
Tyrone Brazelton scored 22 for Western, making the first time the Hilltoppers have had three 20-point scorers in a game since Dec. 31, 1995. Jeremy Evans and Ty Rogers had 10 points each.
Brandon Roberts added 19 points and Jonas Brown 14 for Louisiana-Monroe.
