Vermont 71, Stony Brook 61
STONY BROOK, N.Y. (AP)—Mike Trimboli scored 17 points and Kyle Cieplicki had 16 to help Vermont extend its road winning streak to eight games with a 71-61 victory over Stony Brook on Sunday.
The Catamounts have won 10 of their last 11 games overall in taking over first place in the America East Conference. Their last loss on the road came Dec. 1 at Towson.
Chris Holm added 11 points and 12 rebounds for Vermont (15-6, 7-1), which led 36-22 at halftime.
Ricky Lucas led the Seawolves (7-14, 2-7) with 18 points.
Cieplicki scored five points in leading Vermont to an 8-0 lead just over 4 minutes into the game, and the Catamounts never trailed the rest of the way.
Stony Brook pulled to within five, 24-19, on Lucas’ 3-pointer at 5:52. Then Cieplicki, Martin Klimes and Marqus Blakely each scored four points in a 23-3 run that closed out the half.
In the second half, Stony Brook got no closer than five, 49-44, on Lucas’ jumper at 9:17.
