Cent. Arkansas 64, Nicholls St. 53
CONWAY, Ark. (AP)—Durrell Nevels scored 14 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and blocked five shots Saturday as Central Arkansas got a comeback win over Nicholls State, 64-53.
The Bears (7-14, 2-6 Southland Conference) trailed 28-21 at the half, but improved every aspect of their shooting to outscore Nicholls 43-25 after intermission.
UCA had hit only 22 percent of its field goal attempts in the first half, but made 57 percent in the second period. The percentage of 3-pointers completed improved from 10 to 50 from the first half to the second, while the Bears’ free-throw percentage went from 75 to 93.
Meanwhile, the Colonels (3-18, 2-5), who had made 39 percent of their shots from the field before intermission, saw that fall to 30 percent.
NSU’s Stefan Blaszcynski topped all scorers with 19 points, but Ryan Bathie was the only other Colonel in double digits, with 13 points.
Nate Bowie scored 15 for UCA, and Marcus Pillow added 10.
