Xavier 83, Dayton 67
CINCINNATI (AP)—Justin Doellman scored seven of his 24 points in a 12-0 run to open the second half that put Xavier up for good in an 83-67 victory over Dayton on Saturday.
A 3-pointer by Monty Scott with 15:16 left stopped the run and brought the Flyers within 54-46, but Dayton never got closer than that.
Doellman also had six rebounds, all on defense, and four blocks to lead a balanced attack by the Musketeers (15-6, 5-2 Atlantic 10). Stanley Burrell scored 14 points, Drew Lavender and Justin Cage had 13 each and Brandon Cole added 12. Lavender also had nine assists.
Brian Roberts had 15 points, including 6-for-6 free throw shooting, to lead the Flyers (13-7, 3-4). Norman Plummer scored 14 points and Scott finished with 11.
While both teams shot 80 percent or better on free throws, the difference was in trips to the line: Dayton made 8 of 10 foul shots while Xavier was 28-for-33.
