Monmouth 76, Robert Morris 68
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP)—Dejan Delic scored 25 points—including seven 3-pointers—to lead Monmouth to a 76-68 win over Robert Morris on Saturday night.
Whitney Coleman had 15 points, five assists and six rebounds for the Hawks (9-12, 4-5 in Northeast Conference), while Jhamar Youngblood finished with 13 points and John Bunch added eight points, eight rebounds and six blocked shots.
Tony Lee led the Colonials (13-6, 5-5) with 21 points and seven rebounds, while Jeremy Chappell scored 16 points and A.J. Jackson pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. The Colonials, though, only hit 42 percent of their shots and committed 20 turnovers as Monmouth had a strong defensive showing.
Robert Morris seemed to be in command early on and held an 11-point lead late in the first half, but Monmouth closed with a 13-2 run and the game was tied 36-36 at the break. The teams then traded baskets for most of the second half until Delic put the Hawks ahead for good when he made a 3-pointer with 3:21 left.
Robert Morris eventually cut the lead to 66-64 with 2:19 left, but could not get any closer as Monmouth ended the game with a 10-4 run, including two more 3-pointers by Delic.
