Creighton 71, Indiana St 55
OMAHA, Neb. (AP)—Nate Funk led four players in double figures as Creighton avenged its earlier road loss to Indiana State with a 71-55 win in front of 17,283 fans at the Qwest Center in Omaha Saturday.
Funk totaled 20 points, Anthony Tolliver 12 points, Nick Porter 11 and Dane Watts 10 to lead the Bluejays, who improved to 14-7 overall and 8-3 in league play. They share the conference lead with Southern Illinois.
Creighton broke open a 17-17 game with consecutive baskets by Porter and led by as many as 8 points.
Funk had 16 points by halftime, helping the Bluejays to a 38-33 lead. The team shot 55 percent from the field (11 of 20) in the first half.
Isacc Miles hit a three-pointer and Porter added a pair of free throws as Creighton pushed its lead to 10 in the first minute of the second half. The Bluejays led by double figures for nearly all the final 20 minutes.
Trent Wurtz had 14 of his 16 points in the first half for the Sycamores. But Wurtz picked up four fouls in the first three minutes of the second half.
Indiana State (11-9, 4-6) scored just 22 points in the second half. The loss extended its losing streak to five games.
The Sycamores started conference play with four wins in their first five games.
