Winthrop 64, High Point 63
HIGH POINT, N.C. (AP)—Antwon Harris’ 21 points helped Winthrop hold off High Point 64-63 on Thursday night.
Craig Bradshaw added 14 points as the Eagles defeated High Point for the 20th time in 21 meetings.
Winthrop (16-4, 6-0 Big South) trailed for most of the first half but led 26-25 at the break. In the second half, the Eagles slowly built an 11-point lead before High Point (15-6, 6-1) went on a 12-3 run to come within a basket at 55-53.
Winthrop led 64-59 with 2:31 left in the game. High Point’s Arizona Reid hit two free throws and a jump shot to put the Panthers within one point, 64-63. But a last 10-foot jumper by Reid bounced off the rim just before the final buzzer to give Winthrop the win.
Reid had 24 points and nine rebounds and Eugene Harris scored 12 points for High Point.
