RICHMOND, Ky. (AP)—Andrae Belton connected on a layup with 2.2 seconds left to lift Tennessee State to a 63-62 win Thursday night over Eastern Kentucky.
Belton’s game-winner came 12 seconds after Eastern’s Darnell Dials converted on a 3-point play underneath to give the Colonels a 62-61 advantage.
The Tigers (10-10, 6-4 Ohio Valley Conference) deflected an inbounds pass by the Colonels (10-9, 5-6) as time expired to cap a successful comeback attempt.
Belton led the Tigers with 18 points, followed by Clarence Matthews with 16. Ladarious Weaver chipped in with 11.
Eastern, which led by 12 with 17:30 left, managed just two field goals and six points in the last four minutes.
Mike Rose led the Colonels with 25 points, followed by Dials with 11 and Julian Mascoll with 10.
Rose scored 12 points and knocked down all four of Eastern’s shots from long range in the first half. Rose and Julian Mascoll connected on seven of the Colonels’ nine field goals in the opening half.
Eastern trailed 17-13 with 7:15 left in the first half, but outscored the Tigers 14-4 the remainder of the half for a 27-21 lead.
