SMU 55, Tulane 53
DALLAS (AP)—Ike Ofoegbu scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead SMU to a 55-53 win Wednesday night over Tulane.
SMU (12-7, 1-4 Conference USA) came from behind after trailing by as many as 13 points early in the second half, then held off a late Tulane charge to win. The Mustangs did not score a field goal over the last 5:33 and did not score at all over the final 1:21. Tulane’s Chris Moore missed a 3-pointer with six seconds left for the Green Wave’s final attempt.
Jon Killen added 12 points and a career-high seven rebounds for SMU. Devon Pearson had eight points and seven rebounds.
David Gomez had nine points and 10 rebounds for Tulane (8-9, 1-4). The leading scorers were Moore and Robinson Louisme, who each scored 10 points.
SMU won despite shooting 31 percent from the field and grabbing three fewer rebounds than Tulane. The Green Wave also had more points in the paint, points off turnovers, fast break points and bench points.
The difference might have been at the free-throw line, where SMU made 19-of-24 shots. Tulane was 7-of-13.
