Vermont 65, Binghamton 61
VESTAL, N.Y. (AP)—Nick Vier and Martin Klimes scored 12 points apiece to lead the University of Vermont to a 65-61 victory over Binghamton on Sunday.
Kyle Cieplicki hit a three-pointer to seal the win with 30.8 seconds left in the game as Vermont improved to 13-6 overall and 5-1 in the America East. Binghamton’s Mike Gordon hit a three with 17.1 seconds left to produce the final score.
The Catamounts missed their opening five shots of the contest and Binghamton (9-11, 2-6) jumped out to a 6-0 lead on three’s from Richard Forbes and Dwayne Jackson. But Vermont fought back and took its first lead at 16-14 on a three from Vier.
In the second half Binghamton came out on a 9-2 run to go on top 38-36 with 13:37 to go in the contest. The game stayed tight for the remainder with nine ties.
Trailing 48-44 after a bucket by Forbes with 10:23 to go, Vermont scored nine straight, capped off by a three from Mike Trimboli, and would never trail again.
Colin McIntosh added 10 points off the bench for Vermont.
Forbes led Binghamton with 17 and Jackson added 13.
