PHILADELPHIA (AP)—Jawan Carter scored a career-high 20 points and Pat Calathes added 19 points and nine rebounds to lead Saint Joseph’s past Xavier 82-74 on Sunday.

Ahmad Nivins and Rob Ferguson contributed 16 points apiece for the Hawks (11-7, 4-2 Atlantic 10), who snapped their two-game losing streak. Saint Joe’s hit 10-of-18 3-pointers and finished 20-of-21 from the free throw line.

Josh Duncan led Xavier (13-6, 3-2) with 20 points while Stanley Burrell added 15 points and Derrick Brown had 12.

Xavier’s Drew Lavender hit a 3-pointer to close within 73-70 with 3:46 left. But the Hawks responded with 7-2 run—a 3-pointer by Carter, a basket by Nivins and two free throws by Calathes—for an 80-72 advantage with 1:46 remaining.

The Hawks only committed nine turnovers and went the final 16 minutes without one. Xavier shot 48 percent from the field in the first half and led 40-38 despite being outrebounded 20-14.
