N. Iowa 75, Missouri St. 65
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP)—Grant Stout had 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead Northern Iowa to a 75-65 win over Missouri State on Thursday night.
Eric Coleman added 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Panthers (14-4, 5-2 Missouri Valley), who took advantage of cold Missouri State shooting to carve out the win.
Northern Iowa finished the first half with a 12-0 run to take a 41-35 lead into the break. Then Missouri State (14-5, 5-3) managed just three field goals in first 7:41 in the second half as the Panthers opened up a 13-point lead.
Northern Iowa led 61-48 with 7:47 left in the game before the Bears went on a 12-0 run to pull within a point with 5 minutes remaining. Missouri State tied the game at 63-63 with 3:01 left on a Tyler Chaney free throw.
Northern Iowa bounced back to take a four-point lead with 2:04 remaining, and Missouri State—which shot only 25 percent in the second half—was held to a pair of free throws the rest of the way.
Northern Iowa shot 51 percent from the field for the game (22 of 43) whole Missouri State finished at 38 percent (22 of 58).
Travis Brown finished with 15 points for the Panthers, while Brooks McKowen and Jared Josten added 14 points each.
Nathan Bilyeu led Missouri State with 12 points and Drew Richards had 11.
