Wichita St. 62, Creighton 59
WICHITA, Kan. (AP)—Kyle Wilson scored a career-high 25 points Monday night, including two clutch free throws with seven seconds to play, as Wichita State beat Creighton 62-59.
The Shockers (12-6, 3-4 Missouri Valley Conference) have won consecutive games for the first time since starting the season 9-0 and rising as high as No. 8 in the polls.
With the Shockers clinging to a 60-59 lead, Wilson made both ends of a one-and-one, then Wichita State’s P.J. Couisnard blocked Nate Funk’s 3-point try at the buzzer.
Funk scored 16 points to lead Creighton (11-6, 5-2).
The Shockers led 32-30 at halftime and built the lead to as many as eight points early in the second half. But Wichita State couldn’t shake the Bluejays, who trailed 57-56 after Anthony Tolliver’s dunk with 2:44 to play.
Wichita State built the lead to 60-56 on free throws, but Couisnard fouled Funk on a 3-point shot with 20 seconds to play. He made just one free throw, then hit a jumper with 11 seconds remaining to pull the Blue Jays to within one.
Wilson made 11-of-16 shots, including all three 3-point attempts. Sean Ogirri was the only other Wichita State player in double figures with 15 points.
Nick Porter scored 15 for Creighton, while Dane Watts added 11 points and 10 rebounds.
