MISSOULA, Mont. (AP)—Jordan Hasquet scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds and Montana made 10-of-12 free throws in the final 4:14 to pull away for a 73-65 win over rival Montana State Saturday night.
The score was tied at 60 after a basket by Carlos Taylor with 5:26 remaining. He was fouled by Matt Dlouhy but missed the free throw.
Mike Chavez was fouled twice, at 4:48 and 4:14, and made 3-of-4 free throws to give Montana (8-9, 2-2 Big Sky Conference) a 63-60 lead with 4:14 remaining.
Two free throws by Carson Durr pulled the Bobcats (4-13, 1-3) to 63-62, but Montana answered with a 6-0 run including two free throws by Hasquet, two free throws by Bryan Ellis and another basket by Hasquet on an assist by Dlouhy to give the Grizzlies a 69-62 lead with 1:29 remaining.
Taylor hit a 3 to pull the Bobcats to 69-65 with 1:14 remaining.
Taylor fouled Ellis, Cameron Rundles and Dlouhy on successive possessions. Ellis made both of his free throws with 53 seconds left, Rundles made 1-of-2 with 37.5 seconds left, and Dlouhy made 1-of-2 with 16.5 seconds left.
Taylor was fouled by Ellis with 43 seconds left but missed both free throws.
Rundles finished with 15 points, three rebounds and three assists for Montana, while Andrew Strait added 10 points and seven rebounds.
Taylor finished with 15 points and four rebounds for MSU, followed by Casey Durham with 14 points and four assists. Davis Mecklin added 10 points.
Durham left the game twice in the second half after suffering cramps in his calves.
Montana State made just 3-of-9 free throws in the final 5:54. The Bobcats’ last lead was 57-55 after a 3-pointer by Branden Johnson with 7:14 remaining.
Strait tied it up, and Dlouhy hit a 3 to put Montana ahead 60-58 with 6:09 remaining. Hasquet had the assist on both baskets.
Hasquet had 14 points in the first half, and Montana led 29-25 at halftime.
