Massachusetts 88, Temple 77
AMHERST, Mass. (AP)—Stephane Lasme scored 17 of his 21 points in the second half to lead Massachusetts to an 88-77 victory over Temple on Saturday.
Lasme added 11 rebounds and six blocks for Massachusetts (12-4, 2-0 Atlantic 10). Rashaun Freeman had 21 points and added 10 rebounds. Gary Forbes (18 points) and James Life (16 points) also reached double figures for UMass.
Dionte Christmas had a game-high 23 points for Temple. Mark Tyndale scored 19.
Temple (6-8, 0-2 Atlantic 10) led 45-40 at halftime, but UMass took an early second half lead with an 8-0 run.
Temple tied the game at 50 on a 3-pointer by Dion Dacons, but UMass took charge with an 23-10 run. Temple cut the lead to 76-67 on a Christmas basket with 7:29 remaining, but couldn’t get closer.
In the first half, a UMass led 33-14 after a 14-2 run. Temple responded with a 22-5 run that was capped by two Christmas free throws.
UMass shot 51 percent for the game (32-62), while Temple was 27-58 from the field (47 percent).
With the victory, UMass equaled its win total for all of last season.
