Belmont 73, Stetson 71
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP)—Justin Hare had 23 points to help Belmont hold off Stetson 73-71 on Tuesday night and stay unbeaten in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
Belmont (12-5, 6-0) built a 64-45 lead with 7:27 left but didn’t score a field goal in the last 2:26.
Stetson (5-11, 1-4) got a tip-in at the buzzer by J.J. Hirst for the closest margin after that.
Hare made one free throw with 10 seconds left and Josh Goodwin hit two with 20 seconds left to keep the Bruins ahead.
Hare hit 8-of-12 field goals, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range. Belmont reserve Boomer Herndon added 11 points and a team-high 5 rebounds.
Hirst led the Hatters with 19 points, reserve Tim Lang scored 16 and Gabe McMillen had 11.
Belmont, winning its 12th straight home game, led at halftime 30-27 after falling behind 16-8. The Bruins host crosstown conference rival Lipscomb (10-7, 4-2) in the Battle of the Boulevard Friday.
