VESTAL, N.Y. (AP)—Richard Forbes scored 25 points to lead Bearcats in double figures as Binghamton beat Albany 83-72 on Saturday in an America East game.
Binghamton (8-6, 1-1) shot 58 percent from the floor and held off the defending conference champion Great Danes (8-6, 1-1).
Forbes, who shot 8-for-12 from the floor and made all six free throws, scored nine consecutive points during a 15-2 first-half run that rallied the Bearcats to a five-point halftime lead. They opened the second half with a 13-4 run and made 11 of 12 free throws in the final 1:10.
“We defended, rebounded and scored points,” coach Al Walker said. “That was one of our best team defensive performances.”
Steve Proctor scored 12 of 18 points in the second half for Binghamton. Mike Gordon had 11 points and eight assists. Lazar Trifunovic scored 11 points and Duane James added 10 points and six rebounds.
Jamar Wilson led five Albany five players in double figures with 16 before fouling out with 59 seconds left.
