Delaware St. 54, Coppin St. 49
BALTIMORE (AP)—Roy Bright scored 16 points, Troy Roundtree added 12 and Delaware State beat Coppin State 54-49 on Saturday.
The Hornets (5-9, 2-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) made their final four free throws to hold on for the victory.
Antwan Harrison led the Eagles (3-12, 1-2) with 13 points. He was the only player to score in double figures for Coppin State, which got 19 points from its bench.
Delaware State led 24-22 at halftime, and the game was tight throughout. A basket by reserve Ethan Kennedy brought the Eagles within 41-40 with 6:49 remaining.
Bright answered with a layup and a 3-pointer, giving the Hornets a 46-40 lead with 5:02 left. He later found Roundtree for a layup that increased Delaware State’s lead to five with 2:45 remaining.
Robert Pressey’s inside basket cut the Hornets’ lead to 50-47 with 49 seconds left. Ethan Kennedy had a chance to get the Eagles even closer with 17 seconds remaining, but missed two free throws.
Delaware State outrebounded Coppin State 20-13 in the second half.
