Portland 74, Lewis & Clark 64
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP)—Reserve Jamie Jones had 14 points and 12 rebounds to lead Portland to a 74-64 victory over Lewis & Clark on Sunday.
Kevin Field added 12 points and 13 rebounds for Portland (4-12), which struggled for much of the game against the Division III Pioneers.
Jeff Christensen’s 3-pointer with a minute left in the first half gave Lewis & Clark a 36-35 lead. The Pilots scored the last basket before the break, then pulled away in the second half.
Mark Robinowitz hit five 3-pointers for Lewis & Clark (6-4) and led all scorers with 21 points. David Berggren added 17 points for the Pioneers, who shot 34 percent in the second half.
The Pilots had an advantage inside throughout the game, outrebounding the Pioneers 53-26. In an effort to limit Portland’s strength, Lewis & Clark started leaving the perimeter open in the second half and the Pilots seized the opportunity.
Parker Emerson’s 3-pointer four minutes into the second half gave Portland the lead for good at 45-42. The basket started a 17-5 run that pushed the lead to 59-47 with nine minutes left.
Robinowitz hit a fadeaway jumper and a 3-pointer to whittle the deficit to seven, but the Pioneers would get no closer.
