TEMPE, Ariz. (AP)—Boris Meno scored 17 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead Davidson past Ohio University Thursday night in the first round of the Arizona State Classic.
Jason Richards added 18 points for Davidson, which has won six in a row and will play Arizona State in the championship game Friday.
Jerome Tillman scored 19 points and had 12 rebounds for Ohio. Bubba Walther and Whitney Davis each added 18 points for the Bobcats (6-3).
Stephen Curry, the second-leading scorer in the nation among freshmen, added 19 points for Davidson (10-3) before fouling out with 3:18 remaining.
After trailing by as much as 11 in the second half, Ohio rallied to within 74-71 with 2:47 left. Ohio had the ball with 1:39 left when they were down 76-72, but could get no closer.
Davidson, the third best 3-point shooting team in the country, made 14-of-35 from beyond the 3-point line, hitting four key long shots in the final 6:27.
The Bobcats missed 10 of their first 12 shots while Davidson’s first four baskets were all behind the 3-point line. The Wildcats made 9-of-21 from beyond the arc in the first half and 13-of-31 overall from the field in the first 20 minutes.
Ohio finished the night 26-of-70 from the field.
Davidson out-rebounded Ohio 52-41.
