Louisiana Tech 74, Southern U. 66
RUSTON, La. (AP)—Chad McKenzie scored 14 points and grabbed a game-high 19 rebounds as Louisiana Tech took a 74-66 win over Southern University on Saturday night.
Southern (0-9) came out of the gate firing and led 9-4 at the 16:14 mark in the first half before Louisiana Tech’s Kyle Gibson hit a jumper to cut the lead to three, 9-6, with 15:32 on the clock. Marcus Elliot hit a three-pointer a short while later to tie the game and the Bulldogs (2-6) took their first lead of the night, 12-9, on a Gibson 3-pointer at 14:12.
The Bulldogs would outscore Southern 19-18 for the remainder of the first half and led 31-27 at halftime.
In the second half, the Bulldogs cruised to victory after scoring 41 second-half points.
Gibson finished with 16 points, while Elliot had 12 and Trey McDowell added 11.
Deforrest Riley-Smith paced Southern with 20 points, while Joe Holliday had 12 and Steffon Wiley scored 11.
